Experience Precision Shooting!

Join us for an unparalleled shooting experience at our small bore rifle club. Explore the art of small bore prone TR (Target Rifle) & Benchrest shooting on Mondays and Tuesdays and LSR (Lightweight Sport Rifle) Shooting on Thursday nights.

Small bore TR (Target Rifle) Shooting

Is a precision discipline, shot with .22 target rifles. The discipline is shot prone (lying on your front), and shooters wear jackets and slings to help support the rifle. The discipline can be shot at several distances, but we mostly shoot at 25 yards at our indoor range in Perth but we have the facilities to shoot outdoors in the summer or when someone is brave enough to bear the cold, which we have a 50 and 100 yard range with lots of firing points. We have 4 electronic controlled targets on 4 of our firing points indoor (Not having to go down and change your card, or no scopes, is sublime). The targets are small, with the bullseyes only 12.5mm in diameter. The shooter fires one shot on each 'diagram' after zeroing, giving a score out of 100. (That’s with paper cards, electronic targets you just shoot your sighters then it’s time for your shoot to count, again out of 100, 10 shots on target 10 for a bullseyes).

Benchrest Shooting

Is a discipline of target shooting shot from a bench in a seated position. The rifles are supported on the bench by a front rest and the rear supported by your gloved hand. It can be shot indoors or outside using either Air rifles or .22 Rimfire rifles. The targets are set at a distances of 25 yards and 50 yards. The targets are A3 in overall size each one consisting of 10 individual scoring targets and a sighting target to get zeroed before you shoot. Multiple shots can be taken at the sighting targets but only one shot per scoring target is allowed. This is shot within a 20 minute detail. If outside wind flags are also used to aid accuracy and help the shooter determine wind speed and direction.

LSR (Leightweight Sport Rifle) Shooting

It entails the use of a rifle, weighing a maximum of 4.5kg.  The rifles can be .22 rimfire or air rifles in 1.77 and .22. Any mechanism is allowed, this would include for live fire bolt action, straight-pull, semi auto, Martini action, pump and under-leaver. For those wishing to shoot air rifles PCPs are a popular choice, but break barrels and other forms of pneumatic air rifles are wholly acceptable. Any sights can be used iron or telescopic. Save for a glove for the supporting hand, participants are prohibited from using specialist clothing or equipment such as jackets or slings, which adds to the discipline's appeal. Competitions are conducted at distances of 20  yards, where participants assume standing, or prone and kneeling positions for timed and precision contests.

Air Pistol is Back!

Neil and Andrew McCormack have put an immense amount of effort getting the 10m indoor air pistol range up and running again. We have a four card tournament going, mostly to work out each other’s handicaps and just for everyone to have a go again. Some of us need a lot more practice than others. Air Pistol is a precision discipline, It involves firing at a target using a pistol with 'iron sights', standing, using only one hand. The Club operates a 10m air pistol range. The bull on the targets for AP at 10m is only 11mm in diameter, making this a real challenge! It is a great discipline to take part in for all shooters as it helps to build the principles of marksmanship.
